WHAT DO LIP FILLERS CONTAIN?

Hyaluronic acid is actually a naturally occurring sugar-chain molecule found in all skin and soft tissues throughout the body. Pharmaceutical companies modify these molecules to create Dermal fillers. Due to its chemical make up, they are extremely safe to use and very rarely cause any sensitivity . An advantage of dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid is that they can be dissolved away in cases of emergencies, complications or unsatisfactory results unlike permanent silicone based fillers. Hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary non-permanent fillers. This makes them ideal for use in the face although this does mean the client will require 'top ups' over time as the filler starts to break down.

WHAT TYPE OF LIP FILLERS DO WE USE?

For natural and beautifully sculpted lips, low viscosity fillers are ideal. Some fillers are quite viscous and hydrophilic (water absorbing) causing the lips to 'over inflate or worse cause filler migration giving unnatural results. At Clinic Four we use low viscosity hyaluronic acid filler to give our signature look.

HOW LONG DO FILLERS LAST?

The body reabsorbs the filler within approximately 6-12 months, depending on the age of the patient, their metabolism, the amount of exercise they do regularly, the normal blood flow to the face and whether they smoke. Other facial dermal fillers last longer because other facial areas are not as mobile as the mouth, and as such fillers in these areas are not broken down quite so quickly.

HOW IS THE TREATMENT CARRIED OUT?

  • The area is numbed according to patient preference (anesthetic cream or anesthetic injection).
  • Once your lips are numb, a small hole is made to the side of the mouth with a small needle. This will act as an entry point for the cannula (blunt rounded end needle). The cannula is inserted and passed backwards and forwards gently depositing filler along the way. Some of the benefits of using a cannula vs needle are: less bleeding, less swelling and less pain.
  • Occasionally a needle with filler may be needed in certain cases where precise definition is desired.

Complimentary treatments with lip filler

Marionette lines

Treatment of the lines that extend from the corner of the mouth downwards. These are formed usually as a result of volume loss in the area and are commonly one of the first treatments that our clients ask for advice on.

Nasolabial folds

Nasolabial folds are the grooves that run from the sides of your nose down to the corners of your mouth, also known as “smile” or “laugh lines”. These tend to deepen and become more visible as we age.

WHAT'S A LIP FLIP?

A Lip Flip is a treatment using micro droplets of anti-wrinkle injections, to relax the top lip. By injecting into the lip muscle, the lips are encouraged to relax and ‘flip’ outwards to give the illusion of a subtle, fuller lip. This treatment is ideal for someone who doesn’t want to add volume to their lips or is hesitant about getting lip filler and would like to see how an enhancement may look on them. This treatment usually only lasts approximately 3 months as we are using neuromodulators instead of filler.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MUCH DOES TREATMENT COST?
The price of treatment will vary depending on what treatment is being carried out and the quantity of product being used. Please see prices . Please note it’s important to be individually assessed for an exact treatment quote, as product quantity will vary from person to person. All treatments should be paid for in full prior to starting the treatment. This is the policy of Clinic Four Limited.
I'M SCARED OF PAIN. WHAT PAIN MANAGEMENT OPTIONS DO YOU OFFER?
Anesthesia is a way to numb the area being injected so that you don't have any pain during the treatment. We provide 2 types of anesthetic solutions.

1. Topical anaesthetic: Topical creams like EMLA can be applied to the face and will provide a little anaesthesia. However, it needs to be left on for at least 30 minutes prior to the procedure.
2. Local anesthetic: For a more profound anaesthetic effect, a local anaesthetic, like that undertaken at the dentist, can be administered.

WHAT PRODUCTS ARE USED AND IS THERE A DIFFERENCE?
There are hundreds of products on the market these days. Each range has specific indications and their own unique properties. Whats most important is the safety and how well it breaks down in the case of an emergency/complication. Other factors we look at when purchasing products is how much long term scientific data is available about the product, how long it lasts for and is it CE certified and FDA approved.

Using a safe and well tested product often means the cost price of the product and hence the treatment may be more expensive than other less safe or unstable fillers available on the market. Revolax is an example of a cheaper more generic product, lots of practitioners use to offer cheaper treatments. At Clinic Four we use more premium products such as Aliaxin, Teosyl and MaiLi. There is little difference between premium quality products. The results however are almost entirely based on the skill of the practitioner performing the treatment.
